About Studio 23

My art therapy sessions at Studio 23 provide a safe and nurturing space to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences that can be difficult to put into words.

“Our son has been visiting Paul for a number of months. Paul is patient, insightful and extremely thoughtful, and his therapy creates an environment which enables our son to find expression for his inner thoughts and feelings without fear or judgement. This has helped to bring about some very positive changes for him, and for us as a family.”

Studio 23 sessions explore different ways of making sense of ourselves and the world we live in by working with art materials including photography, collage, clay, film, book making, painting, sculpture, and puppetry.

I currently offer the following individual and group sessions, but I am happy to discuss the options to suit your requirements. I am also able to meet with you and to offer a free trial session in order to give you a better idea of how I work and whether this is right for you or your school.

Working in Schools

I am able to offer individual and group sessions to pupils of all ages at schools in Northumberland. I have experience of working with young people with a range of emotional issues, social, communication and behavioural challenges, and learning difficulties. I am able to provide specialist intervention for those who struggle to engage with school life, as well as those exhibiting selective mutism, self-harming behaviours, pathological demand avoidance, sensory issues, and eating disorders.

I also have extensive experience of engaging children and young people who may be struggling with low self-esteem, who have experienced domestic violence, or have developmental trauma. In addition to individual therapy, I offer small group sessions to promote creative expression, confidence and communication.

I am able to manage the referral and assessment process within the school and my practice includes planning, reviewing and evaluating care, maintaining confidential records, completing accurate reports, and liaising with a range of other health, education and social care professionals, teachers and families. Please contact me to find out more about how I might support your child or pupils at your school.

Working in Community Settings

I have established and managed new services in a range of community settings. This includes providing therapeutic activities for those with learning disabilities, the elderly (including those with a diagnosis of dementia), and those suffering from depression or anxiety. I also have experience of running drop-in sessions and creative activities with specific community groups and members of the public.

If you are interested discussing one-off art sessions, a particular project, or ongoing art therapy or creative activities at your community centre, please contact me to explore the options.

Private Practice

I am also able to offer private art therapy sessions at a purpose-built studio (near Hexham), where there is the option to explore a range of art materials and techniques. Working in collaboration with you or your family member, my practice is supported through monthly supervision to ensure safe and ethical practice.

Following your initial inquiry, I am able to provide a free one-hour consultation or trial session to discuss your requirements, and to explore the ways in which I might be able to support you.

Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
